[14/09/2023] – The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly has taken a significant step towards fostering gender equality and economic empowerment in the Anoff community. In a recent initiative, the Community Development Unit of Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly organized a Local Economic Development training workshop, with a special focus on women in the area. This workshop aimed to equip women and other vulnerable groups with valuable skills, fostering independence and aligning with the global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 of promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls.
A diverse group of 43 individuals, comprising 41 females and 2 males, participated in this hands-on training program. The workshop covered a range of essential skills, with a particular emphasis on practical knowledge that can enhance participants’ economic prospects.
One of the key skills imparted during the workshop was the art of making liquid soap. This skill not only provides a source of income but also contributes to community hygiene by promoting access to affordable and quality cleaning products. Participants were taught not only how to make soap but also the nuances of packaging, adding value to their products and making them more marketable.
In addition to soap making, the workshop focused on improving participants’ bookkeeping and record-keeping abilities. Sound financial management is a cornerstone of economic independence, and these skills can have a lasting impact on participants’ personal and entrepreneurial endeavors.
The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development recognized that financial literacy plays a crucial role in empowering individuals to make informed financial decisions. Therefore, the workshop also included sessions on developing financial management proficiency, providing participants with the tools they need to manage their finances effectively.
The community of Anoff warmly embraced this initiative, with participants expressing their gratitude for the skills and knowledge gained during the workshop. Many participants see this training as a transformative step towards a more secure and independent future.
This Local Economic Development training workshop is part of NAMA’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting gender equality in local communities. By equipping individuals with practical skills, NAMA is not only empowering them but also contributing to the economic development of Anoff and the realization of broader global goals.
As the participants return to their daily lives armed with newfound skills and knowledge, the ripple effect of this training is expected to extend far beyond the workshop, benefitting not only the individuals involved but also the entire Anoff community. Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly’s dedication to empowering communities through education and skill-building continues to make a positive impact, one workshop at a time.
