WORLD AIDS DAY CELEBRATION 2018

The World AIDS Day is celebrated annually across the globe. In Ghana it is celebrated nationally and in all regions, metropolitan, municipal and District Assemblies. The Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly in collaboration with an NGO named “De Young Foundationcelebrated the event with a series of activities.

The Municipal AIDS Committee carried out the following activities;

RADIO INTERVIEW

The Municipal HIV Focal Person, the HIV Coordinator for the Municipal Health Directorate, a community Health Nurse, a Counsellor and a team from De Young Youth Foundation visited FAWE FM and DADDY FM on the 30th of November for discussion on the activities for World AIDS Day. Other topics like the causes, prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS, the AIDS Statistics in the Municipality and Stigma and Discrimination issues were also discussed.

SENSITIZATION VISIT TO MOSQUES

On Friday, the 23rd of November, members of the MAC and health personnels paid visits to the mosques at Ahwease Damang and Nsawam Central Mosque to sensitize our Muslim brothers and sisters on HIV and AIDS related issues and also talk about World AIDS Day.

SENSITIZATION VISIT TO CHURCHES

On the 25th of November, members of the MAC visited three churches to on the same purpose of sensitization and information on World AIDS Day. A team of three each visited the Wesley Methodist church at Nsawam and the Assemblies of God Church at Djankrom.

HEALTH WALK

On Saturday 1st December, a Health Walk was organized. The health walk began around 6:00am at Nsawam Total filling station through the principal streets of Nsawam. Participants included the Blue Skies keep fit club, Etihad fitness club, Fitness is Bae club, National services personnel and the general public. At the end of the Health Walk, the participants were taken through vigorous aerobics at eth Afutu Park just before commencement of the Durbar.

DURBAR

The durbar which marked the climax of the World AIDS Day celebrations was held at the Afutu Park in Nsawam. This gathering saw a good representation of all stakeholders and community 

members. some of the groups who attended included; the NAP+ members in the Municipality, the team from De Young Foundation, the Health Team, the Chief and traditional Council members, the religious bodies and community members. The Chief Nana Akoto Darko III (Fotosanfo Hene of Akwamu Asuogya) chaired the occasion.

Speeches were made by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Director of the De Young Foundation and Representative of the Municipal Health Director. The Municipal Chief Executive gave the Key Note address. They were also brief messages from ARK Development Foundation and a Model of Hope for HIV and AIDS infected people.

There was also poetry recital on HIV by Theresa Halm Acheampong and a cultural dance display by students of Akwane Dobro Presby School.

HIV, Blood Pressure, Tuberculosis, Malaria Testing and Blood sugar level tests were also organized at the durbar.
