On the 4th August, 2023, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Isaac K. Buabeng, along with heads of departments from the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, joined forces with Fawe FM to host a public engagement at the central part of the municipality. The purpose of the gathering was to foster open communication, address citizen concerns, and provide insights into the workings of the municipal assembly.
The event commenced with the master of ceremonies introducing the panel and outlining the objectives of the public forum. The MCE expressed gratitude to the organizers and attendees for their participation. In his address, he shed light on his role as the Municipal Chief Executive, emphasizing the pivotal role the Municipal Assembly plays in supporting various institutions and citizens within the municipality.
Mrs. Antionette Brakoa Appiah, the head of the Budget department, took the opportunity to dispel misconceptions about the assembly. She cautioned against relying on unverified information and urged citizens to authenticate documents through official channels before use or criticism. Mrs. Appiah delved into the funding sources for developmental projects, citing Donor Support, the Government of Ghana, and Internally Generated Funds (IGF). She acknowledged challenges with the timeliness of funds, leading to project delays.
Mr. Frederick Antwi , Head of the Development Planning Office, explained their roles and duties in serving the municipality. He highlighted the creation of a Medium Development Plan, derived from engaging with the public to identify urgent and relevant projects for the community.
The floor was then opened to the public for questions. Two notable questions included inquiries about the assembly’s response to unannounced flooding and how it addresses property damage during such incidents. Another question raised concerns about the allocation of budgeted Internal Revenue to urgent issues, particularly the drainage of gutters affecting a community.
The panel provided detailed responses, addressing the assembly’s emergency response protocols during flooding and explaining the challenges faced when allocating resources to various projects. They acknowledged delays in funding but assured the public of ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact on affected communities.
The public forum concluded with a sense of transparency and understanding, as citizens received comprehensive answers to their inquiries. The event demonstrated the commitment of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly to engage with its citizens, foster transparency, and address concerns in a collaborative manner.
