Construction Of Market Complex And A Shopping Mall
The Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly has existing market facility located at the Nsawam, the Municipal Capital. The location of this market centre which is about 3 Kms away from the Greater Accra Region makes it strategic. The history of this popular market centre dates back as far as the pre-colonial era. It is worth to note that the major Highway in Ghana, that is the Accra – Kumasi Highway passes through Nsawam town. Though rail transport system is uncommon in Ghana, Nsawam has an averagely good railway system that links directly to Accra due to this key Market Centre. This market centre serves the population in three Municipalities (Ga West, Suhum and Nsawam Adoagyiri) and three District Assemblies (Ayensuano, Akuapim South and Upper West Akim) which shares boundary with the Municipality.
On the average about 10,000 people trade at the Nsawam market center from Sunday afternoon through to Monday Night and from Wednesday afternoon through to Thursday Night.
The major items traded in the market includes farm produce, farming inputs, electronics and electrical products, hard ware’s (building material) among others. The products are marketed in stalls, stores, table tops and some display on the roadside.
However, despite this huge opportunity, the market is challenged with inadequacy of market space, outmoded infrastructure, and substandard environment among others. It is unbelievable that some traders display their wares at unauthorized places due to inadequacy of stores and stalls at the market.
The Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly is therefore requesting partnership with interested investors through Public Private Partnership in order to deal with the challenges at the market and also improve on its revenue. The Assembly as a matter of priority is prepared to release land and provide the enabling environment for this project.
In addition to the construction of a Market complex, the Assembly is also prepared to release land for the construction and operation of a Shopping Mall at a strategic position to cater for the huge demand in terms of trading and also to satisfy the diverse needs/ niche of the market population.
