On Wednesday, 9th July 2025, the Municipal Chief Executive for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Hon. Philibert Fummey Amenorpe, continued his series of community engagements with a courtesy visit to the Chief and people of Kwakyekrom/Odeikrom Electoral Area. Accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director and some key staff from the Assembly, the visit formed part of efforts to introduce the new MCE to traditional authorities and engage citizens on national development programs.
Upon arrival, the team was warmly received at the palace by the Chief and Elders of the area. Following customary protocols, the Chief inquired about the purpose of the visit. In response, the Municipal Coordinating Director expressed appreciation to Nananom for granting audience and explained that the meeting was to officially introduce Hon. Amenorpe to the traditional leadership and gather concerns from the community. He added that the MCE would also share highlights of the government’s newly introduced flagship initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.
In his address, the Chief welcomed the MCE and his team and offered words of encouragement and caution. He reminded the MCE that leadership required obedience, unity, and perseverance. While acknowledging the weight of the task ahead, he urged the MCE to remain focused and committed in order to leave behind a legacy of meaningful development. He assured Hon. Amenorpe of his full support and that of the community.
The MCE, in turn, thanked the Chief and Elders for their warm reception and pledged to work hard to uplift the image and development of the Municipality. He emphasized that he was in the community on behalf of the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama and proceeded to outline three key flagship programs launched by the government: Adwuma Wura, the National Apprenticeship Program, and Feed Ghana.
He explained that the Adwuma Wura initiative would offer job opportunities to the youth, with government support in the form of start-up capital and technical assistance for business development. He further elaborated on the National Apprenticeship Program, noting that it would provide free vocational and technical skills training for young people. Under the program, apprentices would be paired with masters and madams in various trades, equipped with tools, and paid monthly stipends by the government.
Touching on Feed Ghana, Hon. Amenorpe highlighted the program’s potential to benefit farming communities like Kwakyekrom and Odeikrom. He encouraged farmers to form cooperatives to access inputs such as seedlings, fertilizers, machinery, and loans. He also urged households and schools to start backyard farms, reminding all that outstanding efforts would be recognized during the annual Farmers’ Day celebration.
During the interactive session, the Chief and residents presented a number of development challenges facing the area. In Odeikrom, concerns raised included poor road conditions, lack of toilet facilities, the need for electricity extension, support to complete a community center, the absence of a senior high school, and issues with illegal sand winning. In Kwakyekrom, residents highlighted the need for a new community center, the completion of an abandoned basic school block, delays in a Ghana First toilet facility, lack of refuse containers, calls for the health center to be expanded into a clinic, and the need to complete the football park to help nurture local talents.
In his concluding remarks, Hon. Amenorpe expressed gratitude to Nananom and the people of the community for their hospitality and active participation. He assured them that his administration would remain accessible and responsive to their concerns. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration with traditional authorities and promised to frequently engage them for advice and guidance in steering the development agenda of the Municipality.
