Ahwerease Darmang came alive with colour and excitement on Thursday, December 5, 2025, as the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly brought together farmers, fisherfolk, chiefs, and government officials to celebrate the 41st Municipal Farmers’ Day.
Held under the theme “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” the celebration highlighted the vital role farmers play in ensuring food security and economic growth. Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mrs. Esther Commey, spoke about government initiatives such as the Nkoko Nketenkete poultry programme, aimed at boosting local poultry production, reducing imports, and creating employment opportunities.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Philibert Fummey Amenorpe, encouraged residents to take advantage of agricultural support programmes, stressing that improved local food production is key to healthier communities and sustainable livelihoods.
A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of awards to farmers who distinguished themselves during the year. Felix Esuah was crowned Overall Best Farmer. Other award winners included Kafui Amenyo as First Runner-Up and Akos Sogbe as Second Runner-Up. Benjamin Kuditey was recognised as Best Poultry Farmer, while Edward Logah received the award for Best Pineapple Farmer.
Felicia Adobea was honoured as Best Micro Agro-Processor, Felix Dollar emerged as Best Tree Crop Farmer, and Theophilus Kofi Adrakpanya was celebrated as Best Differently Abled Farmer. The award for Best Female Farmer went to Forgive Agbavitor, while Felix Kojo Neto was recognised as the Best Agricultural Extension Officer. Asikabew Methodist Primary School also received an award as the Best Primary Institution in Practical Agriculture.
The event ended with prayers and music, leaving participants inspired and hopeful for a stronger agricultural future in the municipality.
