The Municipal Chief Executive of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality, Hon. Isaac K. Buabeng accompanied by some key staff and Assembly member on Tuesday April 26th 2022 visited the ‘Kwasikrom’ electoral area its environs to interact face to face with the traditional chiefs, elders and other residents in the communities to address concerns and developmental issues in the areas. The MCE stated that the engagement program was part of deepening the decentralization process by enhancing grassroots participation and involvement in the decision-making process.
At “Apremeso”, as a result of the demise of the assembly member, there have been no bridge between the traditional communities and the local government resulting to the lack of information dissemination across the electoral area which was later deliberated that an election be conducted to elect a new Assembly Man. The youth leader “Mmrantehene” Kofi Takyi, in his opening remarks commended the MCE and his team for taking time off their busy schedule to participate in the community engagement program. He also encouraged the inhabitants of “Apremeso” to freely communicate all their challenges to the MCE for an amicable solution.
He also used the opportunity to brief the gathering on the needs of the community. Problems stated included; lack of a kindergarten, Lack of portable water, the lack of a toilet facility, Lack of GPS addresses, the extension of electricity and expansion of roads and others which deprives the community from further development.
At “Kwasikrom, Kwameboafo and Kwakyekrom”, similar issues and concerns were raised by the chiefs and locals. However, in Kwasikrom, their concerns were mainly focused on the Lack of a proper teachers quarters which makes it difficult for transferred teachers to discharge their duties and the absence of a library, a community center, police station as well as bad network services were other challenges faced by these communities.
The MCE, for his part touched on several issues such as the construction of roads, schools, land litigation, security, installation of street lights, meter registration among others. He appealed that the needs, concerns and challenges should documented and presented to the assembly for revolving. He therefore advised everyone to pay their property rates, business operating permits and all other taxes so that the Assembly can generate enough revenue to provide more infrastructure. He assured the residents that the completion of all construction projects will soon commence in all communities. He also emphasized that, it is the responsibility of the local government to provide necessary structures and incentives to residents of their Municipality. He however advised livestock rearers to provide shelter for their domestic animals to prevent them from destroying farm products and other properties of people living in the same area as them.
The policy officer of Youth Advocate Ghana (YAG), Madam Vivian Akligo educated the residents of “Kwakyekrom” on the roles of the youth in decision making of their communities. She explained that the YAG was set up to inform the general public precisely the youth about community issues such as gender biased issues, sanitary issues and any other issue that hinders the development of residents across the Municipality. She encouraged residents to channel such matters through the YAG for appropriate measures to be taken.
Prior to the close of the activity, it was recommended that the MCE and the assembly as whole ensures the monitoring and evaluation of construction projects being it roads, school building, community centers, extension of electricity among others.
At every place visited, Hon. Isaac K. Buabeng donated a box of streetlights to be installed. He also advised those present in the meeting to acquire a valid building permit from the Assembly before putting up a building.
