49year old David Afari from Ahodwo has been adjudged the Overall Best Farmer for Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality at the 38th Farmers Day celebration held at Ahodwo. The colourful ceremony was on the theme, ‘Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Added Addition’.
The MCE, Hon Isaac Kwadwo Buabeng reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring food security in the country. He also outlined the various government interventions like 1D1F, Planting for Food and jobs, Planting for Export, among others to ensure abundance of food. He appealed to the people to take advantage of these initiatives and also the free distribution of palm and coconut seedlings.
The Municipal Agric Director, Madam Esther Commey appealed to farmers to put in practice all the new techniques they are introduced to by the Extension officers and also keep proper records of their farming activities. And promised to continuously engage farmers in that regard.
The overall winner received a tricycle (which was donated by the MP, Hon Frank Annoh Dompreh), watering can, cutlasses, knapsacks, Wellington boots and agrochemical inputs.
The Chief of Ahodwo, Nana Opare Amankwah II was grateful to host the event and appealed to the youth to venture into agriculture.
In attendance was the MCD, Mr Jeremiah Agyekum Amoafo, Assembly members and heads of departments.
Ten other awards were presented in various categories like Best Female, Best Non traditional, Best Youth, Best PLWD, among others.
