The Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (DSWCD), has marked the 2026 International Women’s Day with a renewed call for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
The event, held in collaboration with the Municipal Education Directorate and the Wesley Methodist Church, brought together schoolgirls, teachers, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders under the theme “Give to Gain.”
Speaking at the programme, Mrs. Jenny Williams of the SUWMA Circuit encouraged women to support one another, noting that empowerment creates lasting impact not only for individuals but for families and communities. She urged women to give, share knowledge, and uplift each other to build a stronger future for the next generation.
The Municipal Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mrs. Nana Frempomaa Oduro, emphasized the important role women play in development, describing them as central to family life, economic growth, and community transformation. She reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to promoting the welfare and empowerment of women and girls in the municipality.
She also highlighted key interventions such as the LEAP programme, which supports vulnerable groups with financial assistance, as well as skills training initiatives including soap making, talcum powder production, and wig cap making to help women become financially independent.
An investigator from CHRAJ, Madam Dzigbodzi Atsikasah, urged women and girls to speak up against abuse and assert their rights, stressing the need for equal opportunities in education, employment, and leadership.
In a solidarity message, the Municipal CHEP Coordinator called on women to support one another and take up leadership roles, noting that when women thrive, society prospers.
The event featured a poetry performance by pupils from the Nsawam Presby Cluster 2 School, as well as messages of support from Barrier Breakers Foundation and Yes Global Ghana.
Participants described the programme as impactful and timely, expressing renewed commitment to advancing gender equality and supporting women and girls across the municipality.
