OVER 2,100 STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SCIENCE CLINIC TO BOOST EXAM READINESS

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Unit of the Ghana Education Service has successfully organized a week-long Science Clinic for final-year students in the municipality. The event, held at St. Martin’s Senior High School, saw the participation of 2,107 out of the 2,735 registered candidates, aiming to enhance their preparedness for upcoming examinations.

The Science Clinic, which ran from May 27 to May 31, 2024, provided hands-on laboratory experience for students across the municipality. Despite the expectation for all 54 schools to attend, six schools and 628 students were absent. Notably, some private schools joined the program for the first time, marking a milestone in expanding STEM education access.

Due to the large number of participants, the program was structured into two centers, each equipped with five specialized laboratories: Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Agriculture, Mathematics, and Media Labs. Every day, approximately 700 students were engaged in practical sessions, with the organizers dividing them into morning and afternoon batches of 350 students each.

Each lab was manned by two experienced scientists, ensuring personalized attention and hands-on learning. The students were further divided into smaller groups of 35, allowing for an interactive and effective learning environment. Each session lasted an hour, giving candidates ample time to explore scientific concepts through practical demonstrations.

The initiative underscores the Education Directorate’s commitment to enhancing STEM education and equipping students with the skills and confidence needed for their final examinations.
