The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly held a hands-on training session to equip Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with practical skills that can help improve their livelihoods.
The training, held at the Municipal Assembly Conference Hall on 23rd May 2025, gave participants the opportunity to learn how to produce detergents, including liquid soap and other cleaning products. Facilitators guided them through each stage of production, with a focus on quality control, safety and basic business management skills to help participants turn their new knowledge into income-generating activities.
Miss. Nana Frempomaa Oduro, Acting Head of the Department, explained that the initiative is part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to empower persons with disabilities. She emphasized that the training goes beyond financial support, focusing on building skills that enable participants to become self-reliant and contribute actively to their communities.
Also in attendance was Mr. Bright Ntim Dei, Head of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), who spoke about business opportunities available for PWDs through the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and other government initiatives. He encouraged participants to take advantage of entrepreneurship training, access to financial support and other programmes aimed at helping small businesses grow.
Participants expressed gratitude to the Department and the Municipal Assembly for organizing the programme, describing it as a practical and life-changing experience that will help them gain financial independence.
The training ended with participants showcasing the detergents they had produced during the practical session, symbolizing a new beginning toward self-sufficiency and economic empowerment.
