NAMA’S COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT UNIT EMPOWERS COMMUNITY THROUGH CHILDREN’S RIGHTS SENSITIZATION PROGRAM

June 1st 2023 – The Community Development Unit of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly conducted a comprehensive house visits sensitization program at Teshie Town to promote child protection and raise awareness about crucial issues impacting children’s rights and well-being. The program covered topics such as child labor, child marriage, child abuse and neglect, street children, child sexual exploitation, and child rights violations.

During the program, community members were educated about the prevalence of child labor and its adverse effects on children’s education, health, and overall development. The discussion emphasized the importance of eradicating child labor and creating better opportunities for children in sectors such as agriculture, fishing, mining, and street hawking.

Another critical issue addressed was child marriage, with a focus on its detrimental impact on girls’ education, health, and future prospects. Community members were encouraged to advocate for the rights of girls and explore alternative pathways to empower them, ensuring they have equal access to education and opportunities.

Child abuse and neglect were also highlighted, emphasizing the recognition of signs of abuse and the significance of prompt reporting. The program stressed the need to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, protecting them from physical, emotional, and sexual harm.

By organizing this sensitization program, Teshie Town has taken a significant step towards protecting children’s rights and promoting their well-being. Community members are now empowered with knowledge and a deeper understanding of the issues. It is expected that this awareness will foster a sense of responsibility and prompt community members to take action in safeguarding children’s rights, creating a safer and nurturing environment for the children of Teshie Town.

The Community Development Unit remains committed to supporting ongoing efforts in child protection and promoting a better future for all children.
