The president of the republic of Ghana Nana, Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, in a special initiative to curb traffic congestions within towns and cities in the country, and to reduce the prevalence of cars knocking down pedestrians especially school children has initiated a traffic management system where traffic wardens are trained within the communities and equipped with the needed tools to assist pedestrians crossing roads at various points within the communities.
On 24th September 2021 Mr Jeremiah Agyakum Amoafo, The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) and Mr Alex Asiedu Duodu, the Road and Safety Engineer on behalf of the MCE presented various safety equipment like bicycles, reflector vest, head cap, portable bags and torch light to the six-trained traffic warden at the premises of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly.
The MCD congratulated the trained wardens and charged them not to use their position to extort monies from pedestrians and drivers rather to use their training to serve their communities and municipality to help reduce the rate at which drivers knock down pedestrians. He also cautioned them that equipment handed to them are not for their personal use but to help in the discharge of their duties and also promised a reward for wardens who are punctual.
