NSAWAM ADOAGYIRI MUNICIPAL HEALTH DIRECTORATE JOINS IN THE CELEBRATIONS OF WORLD’s KIDNEY DAY

World Kidney Day is a globally acceptable week set aside to create health awareness while focusing on the importance of the kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. Every year, the  Nsawam Adoagyiri Health Directorate partakes in this occasion. This year’s world kidney Day celebration was held at Ahwerease/Darmang with the theme for the Celebration as “Kidney Health For All” . The program came off on the 8th of march, 2022 with a float embarked on by school children in the municipal.

The campaign focused on bridging knowledge gap to improve kidney health through

increased kidney care education and awareness in the public arena .

Increased understanding of the vital role kidneys play, and the simple ways of identifying

and preventing potential health issues, can help combat unnecessarily high morbidity and

mortality rate. The main function of the kidney is the removal of waste and extra fluid

from the body ,it also removes acid that is produced by the cells of your body and

maintain a healthy balance of water, salt and minerals such us sodium, calcium,

phosphorus and potassium in the blood

Signs and symptoms of kidney Disease

  1. Decrease urine output
  2. Fluid retention; causing swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet.
  3. Shortness of breath
  4. Fatigue
  5. Confusion
  6. Nausea
  7. Weakness
  8. Irregular heart beat

Causes of kidney failure

High BP and diabetes are the common causes . Kidneys could also become damaged

from physical injury and other disorders like abuse of analgesics such as paracetamol and

aspirin.

Prevention of kidney

  1. Regular screening, thus BP and DM
  2. Drinking a lot of water
  3. Intake of lemon also helps to prevent calcium from building up and forming stones in your kidney

The Municipal Director of Health Service also added that regular exercise should be our

practice. She then appreciated all the invited guest for leaving their busy schedules and

making time for this program especially the Chief, Obaahema and other dignitaries of

Ahwerease Darmang.

The in charge of the Sub Municipal added that apart from the Health talk on kidney,

other site attractions were free Screening for TB, Hypertension and Diabetes

The program came to an end with a closing prayer by the chief Imam.
