As part of efforts to enhance rural development and strengthen tree crop production, the Agriculture Department of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, under the Government’s Flagship Programme Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), distributed oil palm and coconut seedlings to farmers on June 18, 2024.
The distribution is aimed at supporting farmers in increasing the cultivation of key tree crops that are essential for the local economy. In the second quarter of 2024 alone, a total of 21,000 oil palm seedlings and 4,914 coconut seedlings were distributed to farmers across various communities within the municipality.
This initiative is critical for expanding the tree crop sector, which not only improves livelihoods but also contributes to rural development and economic growth.
The PERD program is part of the government’s broader agenda to boost agricultural production, providing farmers with the resources they need to cultivate high-demand export crops like oil palm and coconut. Through this initiative, the government aims to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development across the country.
