On the 4th October 2025, Hon. Philibert Fummey Amenorpe, Municipal Chief Executive of Nsawam Adoagyiri in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department, on Saturday joined residents and staff of the Assembly to mark this month’s National Sanitation Day with a massive clean-up exercise.
The exercise, which took place across several parts of the municipality, saw active participation from Assembly staff, community members, traders, and youth groups who came out in their numbers to help tidy up their surroundings. Areas such as the central market, lorry station, and key drains within the township were desilted and cleared of refuse.
One noted moment during the exercise was when a massive rubbish heap at Adoagyiri Zongo, which had been plaguing residents for a long period, was successfully cleared. The sight brought relief to the community and renewed their commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
Hon. Philibert Fummey Amenorpe, who personally took part in the clean-up, commended the commitment of residents and Assembly staff towards keeping the municipality clean. He emphasized that maintaining a healthy environment is a shared responsibility and encouraged the public to make sanitation a daily habit rather than a once-a-month activity.
“Cleanliness is not just about one day of sweeping, it’s about discipline and collective responsibility. When we keep our environment clean, we keep our families healthy,” he stated.
The Environmental Health Department played a key coordinating role, mobilizing equipment, tools, and personnel for the exercise. Environmental Health Officers also took the opportunity to educate community members on proper waste disposal, the dangers of open defecation, and the need to ensure all households have access to waste bins.
Community leaders expressed appreciation to the Assembly for its continuous engagement in sanitation initiatives and pledged to maintain the momentum in their respective areas.
The National Sanitation Day, observed on the first Saturday of every month, aims to encourage citizens across Ghana to take collective action in keeping their surroundings clean and healthy.
